This event will have an exciting announcement about the Augusta Jewish Museum!

Welcome to the Future Augusta Jewish Museum

The Work to Save the Oldest Standing Synagogue in Georgia Begins Here

Our Mission

The mission of the Augusta Jewish Museum is to reclaim and restore the original Congregation Children of Israel Synagogue, the oldest standing synagogue in Georgia, and re-purpose it as a Museum and Center for Education. The adjacent historic Court of the Ordinary, an early fireproof building in Georgia, once preserved Richmond County’s records. Now, as part of the new Augusta Jewish Museum, it will collect, preserve and interpret the rich evidence of the Jewish experience in Augusta and will educate, challenge and inspire audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Your Support Will

  • ENHANCE the Telfair Street Cultural strip.

  • PROVIDE a new tourist attraction to the ever-increasing number of visitors to Augusta GA, Aiken SC and the rest of the Central Savannah River Area.

  • CREATE a fine venue for all types of social and cultural events.

  • RECOGNIZE the important role of Jews in Georgia, South Carolina and Augusta Area’s history which is a story long ignored and suppressed in our history books.

  • GIVE EVIDENCE of our personal thanks for the bedrock of Judaism in other religions and cultures.

  • REMEMBER the six million innocent victims who perished in the Holocaust because of discrimination and acknowledge the establishment of the State of Israel.
